Shaping the Future Workshop @ KAHLA/Thüringen Porzellan GmbH

Der Workshop Shaping the Future ist Teil des EU Projekts Ceramics and its Dimensions.

Shaping the Future Workshop
@ KAHLA/Thüringen Porzellan GmbH

In April 2016 the international student workshop Shaping the Future took place at KAHLA/ Thüringen Porzellan GmbH. KAHLA invited students and faculty staff from Aalto University Helsinki, der Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Ulster University Belfast and the Art Academy Berlin Weißensee. Focus of the workshop was 3D printing porcelain. The students and faculty members had the chance to experiment, explore and collaborate with 3D printing, but also with the factories facilities. The workshop Shaping the Future is part of the EU project Ceramics and its Dimensions. As a tutor for this project I supported the students with their projects, but also had the chance to work on own ideas.

The strawflower pattern or Blau Saks is produced at KAHLA since 1844. The pattern is stamped and single lines are drawn by hand in classical indien blue. Blau Saks is a traditional decor, that is still very popular. During the workshop I experimented with the colour, decor and decoration techniques. One emphasis was to create haptic structures, for example through sand blasting of bisque and gloss fired plates. Another focus was the destruction of the pattern in single elements, rearranging and repeating them and trying various application methods.
